º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland wins National Award!
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland has been recognised with a Silver Award for School or College Partnership Programme of the Year in this year's Pearson National Teaching Awards.
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland’s School-College Partnership Programme with the Shetland Islands Council focuses on the school-link courses aimed at S5 and S6 pupils across Shetland, allowing young people to study at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland and gain a recognised qualification alongside their school studies.
This partnership offers courses for young people in a wide range of subjects, all with robust training pathways to local industries, and allows pupils to gain hands-on experience which means they are better prepared to enter the local workforce, with professionalism, deeper knowledge and confidence in their skills.
Recently over one hundred S5 and S6 pupils enrolled on this year’s intake, with the courses gaining popularity every year, which shows the value in which these courses are held by pupils, parents and employers across the isles. With high retention and completion rates for these courses, º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland continue to support the next generation of Shetlanders into their chosen learning, training and employment paths.
Professor Jane Lewis, Principal and CEO of º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland says: “We are delighted to have been recognised with a Silver Award for this important partnership. Our strong and collaborative relationship with both schools and local industries allows these courses to meaningfully contribute to the skills and employment pipeline to support Shetland’s workforce needs. This is a testament to all the staff and stakeholders involved with these courses, and we look forward to the final award ceremony in November.”
Maggie Sandison, Chief Executive of the Shetland Islands Council says: “In the dynamic landscape of Shetland’s job market, the demand for skilled workers continues to grow, creating a pressing need for effective workforce development pathways. Collaboration between our industries and educational institutions is crucial to bridge the gap between education and employment. I am delighted that our success in preparing our young people for the demands of the modern workforce has been recognised through this Award.”
Chosen from thousands of nominees, we will now be in with the chance of winning the highly esteemed Gold Award, which will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony in London and on BBC One’s The One Show later this year.
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland is one of ninety-three deserving teachers, lecturers, leaders, support staff and institutions recognised as a silver winner in this year’s awards for the lasting impact they have on shaping the lives of young people.
