Innovating healthcare at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½: Professor Nicola Carey’s inaugural professorial lecture

The University of the Highlands and Islands (º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½) is proud to announce the inaugural professorial lecture of Professor Nicola Carey, Head of the Centre for Rural Health Sciences.

The event will take place on Tuesday 13 May 2025, from 5:30pm to 7pm at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ House in Inverness, with an option to attend online via Microsoft Teams.

Professor Carey, a highly qualified nurse and academic with over 25 years of experience in clinical practice and education, will share insights from her extensive career. Her lecture will consider the challenges and opportunities to supporting healthcare practitioners provide patient-centred care in a changing and challenging environment. Her research focuses on advancing and evaluating innovative practices in the management of long-term conditions, providing leadership both nationally and internationally.​

Professor Carey said:

“I’m honoured to share this milestone with colleagues and the wider community. My lecture will reflect on the lessons I’ve learned throughout my career and the importance of collaboration, innovation, and compassion in transforming healthcare where needs and resources differ across the UK and around the world.”

The evening will commence with a welcome and laudation by Professor Brian Williams, highlighting Professor Carey's career and achievements.

Professor Williams said:

“Professor Carey’s contributions to nursing and rural healthcare have been both pioneering and impactful. She has shown clear commitment to advancing evidence-based practice and improving patient outcomes throughout her career. It is a privilege to celebrate her work and welcome her to this important academic milestone.”

Following the lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive Q&A session and enjoy a networking reception.
