Successful Opening Night for Vision 2026 Fine Art Show

º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland welcomed visitors, students, families and members of the wider arts community to the opening of Vision 2026, the 2026 Fine Art Degree Show, at its Gremista campus in Lerwick on Friday evening.

The exhibition showcases the work of graduating BA (Hons) Fine Art students Tayla Hanks, Estella Smith, Susan Linklater and Emma Eunson, bringing together a diverse range of contemporary practices across painting, printmaking and mixed media.

The opening night provided an opportunity to celebrate not only the students' creative achievements but also a number of award successes from across º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland's Creative Industries programmes.

Among the award recipients was Karolina Matlinska, who was named º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland Student of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contribution and achievements during her first year of studies.

Several Fine Art students were recognised for their exceptional work. Tayla Hanks received the GAADA Award, while Emma Eunson was selected for the prestigious SSA New Graduate Award. The award includes an invitation to exhibit in the next Society of Scottish Artists Annual Exhibition, two years of free SSA membership and a bursary to support the transportation of artwork. Susan Linklater received the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland Fine Art Excellence Award in recognition of the quality and commitment demonstrated throughout her studies.

Emma Eunson and first-year Fine Art student Jim Sutherland were both awarded the Shetland Arts Exhibition Prize. Estella Smith received the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Alumni Dissertation Prize for achieving the highest-scoring dissertation, recognising the strength of her academic research alongside her studio practice.

Students from the NC Art & Design programme were also recognised, with Gracie Smith receiving the Student Prize and Karis Wilson awarded the Shetland Arts and Crafts Prize.

Alongside the degree show, visitors can also view work from across º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland's wider Creative Industries programmes, including Masters Art & Social Practice, NC Art & Design Portfolio, Senior Phase 5th and 6th Year Art, Woven Textiles CPD, and the Eric Gray Lifeskills and Forward Directions classes.

Vision 2026 remains open to the public until 19 June at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Shetland's Gremista campus in Lerwick. Admission is free, and visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition and discover the diverse creative voices emerging from Shetland's artistic community.
