Emma MacSween, employed by Lewis Builders Ltd, competed in the SPARKS Female Learner of the Year Competition. After securing runner-up position in the regional heats held in Wigan, Emma progressed to the national final in the Midlands, where she competed against some of the UK’s most talented learners. Although she narrowly missed out on a top placing, her achievement in reaching the final and her strong performance throughout the competition reflected her dedication and ability.

Sean MacMillan, an apprentice with Ali Macleod Electrical Services, took part in the Scottish Electrical Training Trust (SECTT), Scotland North Apprentice of the Year Stage 1 Competition. Sean impressed judges during the practical elements of the event and demonstrated a high level of skill and professionalism.

Ryan Campbell, employed by A Campbell Electrical Services, competed in the SECTT Scotland North Apprentice of the Year Stage 2 Competition. Ryan excelled in the theory section, showcasing the technical knowledge and understanding that underpin success in the electrical industry.

The three apprentices were recognised for their commitment and willingness to test themselves against some of the best emerging talent in the sector. Participation in competitions of this calibre provides valuable opportunities to gain experience, develop confidence and benchmark skills against industry standards. Ally Macleod, Engineering Lecturer at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ North, West and Hebrides, said:

"It has been brilliant to see Emma, Sean and Ryan step up and test themselves against some of the top apprentices in the North of Scotland and the UK. Getting to this level takes a lot of hard work, and we couldn't do it without the brilliant backing we get from our local employers: Lewis Builders, Ali Macleod Electrical Services, and A Campbell Electrical Services. That on-site support is what allows these apprentices to really thrive.

"Sean and Ryan put in a massive effort at the SECTT Scotland North Competition, and Emma did a fantastic job reaching the UK national SPARKS Female final. They’ve all shown that the standard of talent and training we have here on the island can hold its own even at a national level. They’ve done themselves, their employers, and the campus proud, and they've set a cracking example for the next cohort of apprentices coming through.”

º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ North, West and Hebrides extends its thanks to prize sponsors Medlock Stornoway and Megger UK for their generous support, including the donation of toolkits and Safe Isolation Test Equipment prizes.
